Festivals Designers Information

Born in 2009 ‘Kimaya’ the brainchild of the husband-wife duo Pradeep and Neha Hirani is now the undisputed leader in retail fashion business. Summer has bid adieu and with the arrival of festivals in India, Fall is going to sneak very soon. Pre-Fall fits seamlessly in between and Kimaya is all set with its new Pre-Fall collection, including festive lines as well. A unique blend of designer assortments by Malini Ramani, Charu Parashar, Rina Dhaka, Manav Gangwani, Hemant and Nandita and Ashish and Viralwas showcased on 1st of Aug at Kimaya in South Mumbai. Every single line by each designer was visually appealing like a beautiful bouquet of colourful ensembles.

Pradeep commented, “India has ‘festive’ as a very important season of its own and its about to start from ‘Rakshabandhan’ now. So here we are with the pre-fall festive collections.” Charu Parashar’s women’s line brought fresh colours in chiffon, georgettes and crepes. Swarovski on the necklines of shift dresses, suits and cocktail outfits just made it alive and luxurious. This festive line truly justifies value for money as she says- “this time my designs are more focused towards the pre-wedding ceremonies suitable for various occasions. Also, I have designed clothes in a way that they can be worn more than one time at different occasions.” Rina Dhaka was in a hurry. “My designs are a reflection of today’s sensuous women. For me fits are really important, my every worker concentrates on the fit first. The whole idea is to make voluminous silhouettes look beautiful. I love colours and that’s what I have played with in this line.” The simple and sober designs embellished with sequined embroidery were presented by none other than the designer duo Hemant and Nandita. Epitomizing a traditional style, the whole range is a beautiful blend of colours and embroideries. Fabrics dipped in maroons, metallic greys, brinjal purples and earthy colours with Zardozi, brocade, dabka and nakshi were magnanimous.

Manav Gang wani unveiled his assortment of sarees and Anarkalis, whereas Malini Ramani came up with a full range of dresses with an ethnic touch from the palette of mustard, ochre, parrot green and black and white with tribal embroideries and digital prints including cowl and boat necklines. Sequin work added the bling and glam to her collection staying true to her signature style. The most recent variation of anarkali called ‘masakali’ was the range from Ashish and Viral’ skitty. From the palette of solid colours like teal blue, dark brown and green, the whole line represented the contemporary Indian feel. Brocade work and minimal embroidery in lurex based silk and tulle made the designs simpler and classy. Amongst those who showcased at Kimaya, very few made it possible to be present at the occasion. Rina Dhaka, Charu Parashar and Ashish and Viral were the only designers present. We also spotted Rashmi Uday Singh, Anil Chopra, Amrit Maghera, Vikram Raizada and Anupam Parashar interacting with other guests. It was an exquisite soiree over wine and cheese, including divine foot massages by ‘Aroma Thai’

Jatin Varma, amicably known as JV, is back with a bang after a hiatus of four years. He is all geared up for his new collection The 12th Month which will be unveiled for the Indian fashionistas in the coming season. Already garnering high appreciation in New York, Singapore and London, this collection was showcased at the ON/OFF in London and at Vendome Luxury Fair in Paris Le Murice. Once again, he has borrowed his inspiration from the nature. While the designs are emphasizing on the frozen days, mystic nights and dreams on ice, the designer is playing around with few basic shades like white, grey, jade green and black. Highly known for his evening wear gowns, the designer has imparted life to his imaginations by weaving them in silk, silk jersey, silk satin, silk velvet and silk duppion, velvet, satin, duppion. Jatin shared, The collection is an amalgamation of the different faces of winter. My designs narrate the story of a flowing river that slowly freezes as the mercury dips and takes on shapes that becomes the spectacle to the eye and also plays on the imagination of the mind.”

Drapes and silhouettes take on the nature of ice and snow on sharp dresses, flowy gowns and structured and bold jackets. He added, With this, I have played around with drapes in structured and fluid forms, highlighting the three appearances of water. One of the gowns in grey and white textures accentuates the effect of ice breaking on frozen water and has been highlighted with some sequined effect.”

Sequined sheets of fabric imitate ice formations spanning over an ocean. The palette of shades used for the collection portrays the reflection of the night sky on frozen lakes and snow clad mountains and the designer has successfully achieved it. In terms of future projects, the designer is planning to come out with his flagship store and one more store in Ambawatta near Mehrauli. With the flagship store, the designer will be trying his hands on Indian wedding wear which will mainly comprise leheng as and sarees. As far as his participation in fashion week is concerned, he states, “Since there is so much happening between FDCI and FDPC, time will decide but most probably I will be sticking with FDCI.” It seems like he is not ready just yet to spill the beans on his future commitments. The glossary of future designs was all game to make your home more beautiful. At DLF Emporio in the capital, where a home decor and life style magazine celebrated its third successful edition with a livable art installation that gave patrons a peep into the future designs. A celebration of evolved living, the evening witnessed the unveiling of the exhibition titled The Future of Design, where iconic offerings by some of the leading names in home dcor and fashion gave one the option of bringing home style and glamour. Offering a holistic approach to design, the participants at the exhibition will put their classiest foot forward and unveil installations that denote ’state of the art design’ to them.

Some of them are Puneet Gupta ’sin stallation on climate change titled ‘0.76 degree Celsius’, the arty scarves by Satya Paul that portray Sultana Hasan’s arts, a splendid silver furniture set up by Adarsh Gill, table inspirations by Ravissant, dcor solutions by Renaissance Homes, an inspiring model by AUDI, a six feet long telephone by Vadhera Art Gallery, organic designs by Klove Studio, Amme De Verrs’Plus Outlook’ and home dcor ideas by Rosebys. “My thought behind designing this chair was to juxtapose perceived realism as we like to see it from our rose tinted glasses.
